The event that acknowledges the best of the best in all sorts of sports is Colours Night. St.Anthony’s College celebrated their Colours Night under the dark sky of the 5th of April this year. Since this event deserves to be nothing but grand, teachers and students alike rehearsed well making sure it was an undoubted success. The chief guest for this event was Ver.Rev.Fr. Shamindra Jayawardane and guest of honor were Mr. Priyantha Jayasundara an old Antonian. After the lighting of the oil lamp, hymn to St.Anthony, college anthem and religious observances, Rev.Fr. Principal welcomed all through his speech. The eastern music group performed a mix of Sinhala pop songs followed by the first distribution of awards. An hour after the beginning of the event a modern Tamil dance to the beat of yet another combination of songs was seen on stage.
A karate demonstration presented by two young Antonians was performed in between the merit award distributions. The island-wide recognized Antonian choir sang the famous ‘On top of the world’, sending the perfect message right before presenting the awards that actually do take you to the top of the world, the Eagle awards. This year there were four Eagle award bearers Master Dinuk Amarasinghe, Master Reggi Yogarathnam, Master Ishara Liyanage, Master M.I. Shabeer and Master Geshan Thilakarathna. Next, the guest of honor Mr.Priyantha Jayasundara announced his choice of words to the audience, with the values of sports. A token of appreciation was provided to Mr. Priyantha Jayasundara by Rev.Fr.Principal. At fifteen minutes past seven the facilitation of MICs commenced which acknowledged the infinite support given to the young sportsmen by them, with that, the event came to its conclusion ending with a much needed thank you speech given by the head prefect Master Chamod Mahanama to all those who spared no ounce of effort or a second of time in order to organize this event.
It definitely inspired more Antonians to achieve what these sportsmen just did on this day.
